April 2023
The new season of exhibitions starts with the Spey Art Group in the Spey Bank Gallery in Grantown, newly refurbished by our tutor Angus Grant. Previously we met weekly in the Grammar School but this new exciting facility is now open for us to use on Wednesday evenings during term time. The title of the exhibition is "Highland Life" and all work is for sale.
As a member of Creative Cairngorms I am in for a busy schedule of exhibitions this year with the Iona Gallery, Kingussie in May, Old Kirk Nethy Bridge in August and Logie Steading in September.
I like to do other crafts and will be taking part in the Textiles exhibition in Kingussie from the 2nd to 18th June. This will include knitting and sewing, working with spare yarns and upcycled materials. For my own use I made a little "beach Hut" in stained glass in a workshop at the Highland Artisans in Grantown on Spey which was very satisfying.
I am going on an intermediate course in botanical painting in Aviemore in May having completed the introduction last October.
October 2021
Finally managed to honour a commitment to Boat of Garten SWRI for a watercolour painting demo. The resulting "Old Spey Bridge in Autumn" was raffled to raise money for my chosen charity which was Parkinson's UK. This was speed painting as I had about 60 mins to do my demonstration after the evening's business had been dealt with. Thoroughly enjoyed the event in front of a very appreciate audience.
July 2021
At last the galleries are opening again under Covid regulations and I have been able to exhibit in the Iona Gallery, Kingussie with the SBSA (see "Exhibitions"). The first show was of "Lockdown Creations" and was open to all local folk, not exclusively members. At full swing at the moment is the Creative Cairngorms collective exhibition which is welcoming summer visitors to the Strath. My next venture is to the SBSA Summer Festival show and then the Old Kirk at Nethy Bridge also with Creative Cairngorms in August. In addition to the shows a small number of Spey Art Group members have been meeting to sketch at various locations around Grantown each Wednesday afternoon aided by the recent hot spell, fulfilling a definite need to socialise as well as create it has to be said!
Abandoning all hope of going abroad this year I went on a week's staycation walking holiday on the Speyside Way in June and collected some ideas for some new work which I will be able to use in the studio later on.
